About
Regional Workshops: Local priority areas and strategies
Purpose of the Project
The purpose of this project is to develop a bi-national action agenda for conserving and restoring, to the fullest extent possible, the native biodiversity of Lake Huron. This project will contribute to the overall aims of a healthy, diverse lake and communities living sustainably on its coast. This will be a collaborative, bi-national, multi-stakeholder effort to identify key natural resources, threats to these resources, an action agenda for addressing these threats, and measures of the success of conservation actions. This project will lead to greater collaboration among organizations and communities working to conserve Lake Huron.
Goals of the Project
- Define a bi-national vision of conservation success for Lake Huron
- Develop a common action agenda for abating the threats to key natural resources
- Help all groups function better together
- Define measures of success
- Use the best science available to understand the current status of the lake’s key ecosystems and species
- Identify knowledge gaps, and define strategies to fill them
- Provide a framework for place-based conservation efforts
- Take advantage of the conservation plan developed for Lake Ontario, where relevant
