Trumpeter Swan

Habitat: Large shallow wetlands, ponds, bays.

  • This swan is the largest of all North American waterfowl weighing from 25-35 pounds when fully grown, with a wingspan of nearly eight feet when fully extended.
  • Trumpeter Swans feed on aquatic plants such as milfoil, pondweed, bulrush, arrowhead and wild rice.
  • These swans form strong pair bonds that can last for many years. They often build their nests atop muskrat lodges.
