Habitat: Great Lakes, marshes, bays.
This less common diving duck is similar in color to the Canvasback, but with darker body, more rounded (less sloped) head and bluish bill with black tip.
Redheads are sometimes seen year-round in southern Michigan and during migration throughout the state.
Many females do not make their own nests but will instead lay their eggs in nests made by others.
