Habitat: Great Lakes, marshes, bays.

• This less common diving duck is similar in color to the Canvasback, but with darker body, more rounded (less sloped) head and bluish bill with black tip.
• Redheads are sometimes seen year-round in southern Michigan and during migration throughout the state.
• Many females do not make their own nests but will instead lay their eggs in nests made by others.
