Habitat: Ponds and bays.

  • Mute swans were introduced from Europe in the late 1800s. They’re now common in Michigan and many parts of North America.
  • These large, graceful birds have a gently curved neck and an orange bill tilted downward.
  • Mute swans can be aggressive, and their population growth has created management concerns regarding competition with native wildlife.
