Habitat: Ponds, rivers, wetlands, marshes, wooded swamps, fields.

  • A common marsh duck, the mallard is often seen feeding on the surface of the water, or dabbling.
  • Mallards eat aquatic plants, seeds, insects and small aquatic animals.
  • Males have a glossy green head and white neck ring. Females are mottled brown with a whitish tail.
