The Riverfront Promenade at General Motors Global Headquarters

The Renaissance Center, a Detroit icon since 1977, is an office/ retail/ hotel complex that is one of Detroit's major attractions with more than one million visitors annually. Located between Jefferson Avenue and the Detroit River, its four towers overlook downtown Detroit, the Detroit River, and Windsor, Ontario.

In redeveloping the Renaissance Center as its Global Headquarters, General Motors Corporation will turn its front door from Jefferson Avenue to the Detroit River — creating a magnificent riverfront promenade. When combined with adjacent projects to the west and eventually the east, the result will be several miles of new and improved riverfront walkways.

The promenade is part of GM's $500 million redevelopment of the Renaissance Center. The redevelopment also includes a five-story, glass-enclosed public hall called the Wintergarden. GM's Wintergarden provides four-season views of the Detroit River and Windsor. The Wintergarden is flanked by two stories of retail space. Additional retail shops will line the riverfront promenade, and outdoor restaurant seating will create a new ambiance at the Renaissance Center.
