Fees and Policies

Class Size
We recommend class sizes of up to 30 students, plus four adult chaperones and the class teacher. The maximum group size is 35, per U.S. Coast Guard regulations.

Fees
The standard cost in Macomb County is $530 (out-of-county cost is $630). This fee includes a day-long educational experience. A schoolship cruise, vessel costs, a shoreside exploration of wetlands, an educator’s notebook (classroom curriculum), and new teacher training are also included in the fee. We require a $100 deposit.

Payment in full is accepted at any time but must be received prior to your scheduled cruise date(s). All checks should be made payable to “MSU Extension” and submitted to:

Phone: (586) 469-6430
Fax: (586) 469-6948

Cancellation Policy
If you cancel an existing reservation, we must receive written notice of your cancellation at least 30 days before your scheduled date. If you notify us of cancellation less than 30 days prior to your scheduled date, you agree to pay a $100 cancellation fee.

If a cruise is cancelled due to weather or vessel-related reasons, an alternate date will be scheduled. The captain of the vessel determines circumstances under which the vessel will sail, rules of conduct, and other matters aboard the vessel (hazardous conditions or other unavoidable circumstances).

Program Orientation
All first-time teachers must attend a two-hour program orientation prior to their scheduled cruise date. Teacher orientation dates will be provided once registration forms have been received.
