Funding Suggestions
INTERNAL SOURCES
- Funds available from your school administration for
field trips or special events
- Funds available from your school’s parent-teacher
association
- Discretionary class funds
- Student fees
- Special fund raising opportunities such as a pop
bottle drive (this is very effective), bake sale, popcorn sale, etc.)
EXTERNAL SOURCES
- Non-profit organizations and foundations (Kiwanis,
Lions Club, Rotary Club, etc.)
- Local businesses (restaurants, sporting clubs,
department stores, etc.)
- Teacher grants (search the web under “teacher
grants”, “education grants” or “environmental
education grants”)
- Student’s parent may own a business and provide
financial support for some or all of trip
REMEMBER IN APPROACHING ANY GROUP OR ORGANIZATION FOR
FUNDING IT IS IMPORTANT TO:
- Familiarize yourself with the program you
are participating in so you can answer questions and provide correct
information
- Be able to explain the benefits of the program to
your curriculum studies. We can provide you with a short 10-minute video
about the program, as well as program brochures designed to show to
potential funders
** If total funding is not available from one source,
apply to several sources for partial funding.
The sum of partial funding may often equal the total
cost of the program. Explore the idea of establishing permanent partnerships
with businesses or organizations in order to obtain their annual support
of your class’s participation.
** Funders are invited to participate in the
program with the class. Please invite a representative from the local
bank, business or organization to attend on your date.
